Jean-Sébastien Roy is a researcher at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (Cirris) and at the ARThtritis Research center (ARThritis-UL), as well as a Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at Université Laval (Quebec City, Canada).
Dr. Roy has developed an innovative research program that seeks to better understand key determinants of musculoskeletal pain and functional decline, particularly factors that drive the transition from acute to chronic MSKDs. Two main themes underpin his work: (1) elucidating the mechanisms and contributors to musculoskeletal pain, and physical impairments, and (2) improving rehabilitation interventions to prevent or reduce symptoms and functional limitations in individuals with MSKDs, including those with rheumatic conditions. Accordingly, his projects span mechanistic studies on pain and fatigue, as well as clinical trials focused on optimizing rehabilitation interventions. Dr. Roy has published over 235 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 9 book chapters, and has given over 60 presentations at national and international conferences. Before being involved full-time in research, he worked for 10 years as a physical therapist at the Laval University Hospital, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.Learn more
