Dr. Natalie McCormick is a junior faculty investigator in the Rheumatology and Allergy Clinical Epidemiology Research (RACER) Center in the Division of Rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She completed her MSc and PhD in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of British Columbia and Arthritis Research Canada, under the supervision of Drs. Antonio Aviña-Zubieta and Carlo Marra. She used both BC administrative health data and prospectively-collected survey data to study the healthcare and economic burden of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases. She continued as a research trainee while pursuing postdoctoral training in clinical epidemiology and causal inference methods at MGH, supported by a CIHR Fellowship Award, under the tutelage of Arthritis Research Canada Senior Research Scientist Dr. Hyon Choi. Now supported by a Pathway to Independence career development award, she is using ‘multi-omic’ data (e.g., genetics/genomics and biomarkers) from large cohorts to assess the metabolic and inflammatory factors contributing to gout risk. She also uses the BC administrative data to assess the secondary benefits of glucose-lowering medications for people living with gout.
