Ty Clayton Raises over $15,000 for Arthritis Research by Running a Marathon a Day

Vancouver (November 3, 2025) –  After running the equivalent of 12 marathons in 12 days, Ty Clayton has crossed the finish line of his incredible 500-kilometer journey across Vancouver Island — all to raise awareness about arthritis and support arthritis research. His effort has already raised $15,250 for Arthritis Research Canada and continues to inspire people nationwide.

This feat is even more extraordinary given that Clayton lives with ankylosing spondylitis, a painful and debilitating form of inflammatory arthritis that affects the back, hips, and often other parts of the body. He experienced his first major symptoms when he was 14.

Inspired by the stories of Terry Fox and Rick Hansen, Clayton wanted to run to raise awareness about arthritis. His goal is to “make arthritis famous”, since many aren’t aware of how debilitating the condition can be.

“Running a daily marathon wasn’t easy, but I kept thinking about everyone who lives with arthritis and other chronic conditions,” said Clayton. “If this run gives even one person hope or gets more people talking about arthritis, it was worth it.”

The funds raised will help advance research for improved treatments and resources to help more than six million Canadians live well with arthritis. Dr. Diane Lacaille, Scientific Director at Arthritis Research Canada, praised Clayton’s commitment.

“On behalf of everyone at Arthritis Research Canada, I extend a heartfelt thank you to Ty for his extraordinary achievement and dedication,” said Lacaille. “His determination and positive spirit inspire us all.”

Clayton continues to push his limits to encourage others to keep moving, keep giving, and keep believing that every step makes a difference. His recent Vancouver Island run was a test for a much longer journey next year. In July 2026, he plans to run over 7500 kilometers from the Arctic Ocean to Baja, Mexico and towards a future free from living with the devastating impacts of living with arthritis by raising more funds to support Arthritis Research Canada.
