Become an Arthritis Advocate

Living with arthritis makes you an expert.
We need that expertise.

Arthritis affects 6 million Canadians. But statistics don't capture what it's actually like to live with this disease. You do.

Arthritis Research Canada conducts research that improves prevention, treatment, and care for people living with arthritis and rheumatic diseases across Canada. That research is stronger when it’s shaped by the people it’s designed to help.

The Arthritis Patient Advisory Board is a group of passionate, informed volunteers who bring their lived experience directly into our work by reviewing studies, advising researchers, and making sure the questions we ask are the ones that matter most to patients. They are directly tied to the research process, so the care that follows is built on real-world experience.

This is not a passive role. APAB members are active partners in world-class research. And their contributions show up in the care Canadians receive.

What it means to be an APAB member

APAB members contribute in real, meaningful ways. They review research proposals, advise scientists on study design, help interpret findings, and ensure Arthritis Research Canada’s work stays grounded in the realities of living with arthritis.

But the impact goes beyond any single study. When patients shape the research agenda, the whole system gets better. Treatments become more relevant. Care models become more practical. Discoveries reach the people who need them faster.

Members come from all walks of life. What they share is a diagnosis, a commitment to making things better, and a belief that their experience carries weight. Because it does.

Arthritis Research Canada provides training and support so every member can contribute with confidence, regardless of their background in science or research.

Who we're looking for

You don’t need a science degree or a research background. You need a diagnosis, a point of view, and a willingness to show up for others living with this disease.

If you answered yes, we want to hear from you.
