When you think about arthritis and/or arthritis research, what are the most shocking stats to you?

One of the most surprising statistics is that 1 in 5 Canadians lives with arthritis, and this number is expected to grow. It is the most reported chronic condition by women and third by men. It is responsible for 1 in 10 doctor visits and 1 in 16 hospitalizations. It’s also the leading cause of disability in Canada, yet many people still consider it a minor condition. Another shocking fact is that arthritis affects not just older adults but also young people—including children—highlighting the urgent need for more research, education, and treatment options.
