Got joint pain?

Arthritis Research Canada has answers.

Stay up to date on osteoarthritis research.

We’ve got research for all stages of osteoarthritis.

Research to prevent.

More than 55,000 hip replacements and over 55,000 knee replacements are performed in Canada annually. Osteoarthritis is the main cause. We’re working to prevent it.

Research to manage.

There is currently no cure for osteoarthritis. We’re conducting research to increase early detection and help patients manage their symptoms so they can continue to lead active and fulfilling lives.

Research to find causes.

Osteoarthritis does not result from wear and tear on joints. From injuries to bone conditions, lifestyle and more, we’re investigating the various factors that cause this type of arthritis.

Our team of 100+ scientists has a lot of research to tell you about.

“Can a person reduce their risk for osteoarthritis? The simple answer is yes. But they have to take action. We’ve developed a program to help people who’ve had a previous knee joint injury navigate their knee health and reduce their risk for osteoarthritis.”

Dr. Jackie Whittaker

Research Scientist

“For people with knee osteoarthritis, early diagnosis and intervention before damage is advanced makes a difference. We’re developing a new super app that will empower patients to self-diagnose and take charge to prevent disabling pain, and improve care.”

Dr. Linda Li

Senior Scientist

“Hip osteoarthritis is one of the most common joint diseases and a main reason for hip replacement. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) causes the hip bones to fit together imperfectly and create extra friction. We’re investigating the link between FAI and hip OA.”

Dr. Jolanda Cibere

Senior Scientist
