Osteoporosis & Bone Health

Osteoporosis is a medical condition that causes a person’s bones to become weaker and more prone to breaks – even with limited trauma.

It affects both women and men – especially over age 50. However, medications used to treat diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, can accelerate loss of bone and increase osteoporosis risk even in younger people. Most don’t know they have osteoporosis until a fracture occurs.

Arthritis Research Canada’s scientists are conducting research to improve osteoporosis diagnosis, treatment and care. Learn more about this research and hear from Mary Point, who was diagnosed with osteoporosis after breaking multiple bones.
