A faculty of UK-based rheumatologists has developed an educational website to provide physicians with access to highlights and interviews from international rheumatology congresses.

All interviews on the www.rheumatology-congress.co.uk website are independently selected and reviewed. The site currently highlights data from the 2009, 2010 and 2011 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and Association of Rheumatology Healthcare Professionals (ARHP) Annual Meetings.

Amongst the 2011 abstracts selected was Dr. Anne Townsend's 'Ambivalent Attitudes, Accessing Information and Decision-Making: An Interview Study of Medication Use in Early Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)'.

Arthritis Consumer Experts (ACE) interviews Dr. Allen Lehman of the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) about a new Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded research project: The Burden of Arthritis in Aboriginal Communities.

Dr. Lehman is part of a team that will be examining the frequency of hip pain and other factors associated with hip osteoarthritis in three subsets of the Canadian population (Chinese, Aboriginal, and Caucasian people). It is believed that the occurrence is highest amongst Aboriginal Peoples, so the goal of the study is to reduce the burden of arthritis in Aboriginal communities and ultimately to prevent the disease.

This project is part of a larger study examining the possibility that specific types of exercise, combined with a subtle hip deformity, may lead to hip osteoarthritis.

Lupus 2010 was held in Vancouver this past June. Hundreds of researchers, healthcare professionals, and individuals living with lupus attended and learned about the current state of the science in SLE and future opportunities in lupus research, education and care. A key objective for the three day congress was to attempt to close the gap between what we know, what we do, and what we could do worldwide in SLE therapeutics, medical and public education, and clinical and fundamental research.
