September is Arthritis Awareness Month
Join the #MakeArthritisVisible Campaign!
Individuals living with arthritis often feel like family, friends and colleagues either don’t see their disease at all or misunderstand it as merely aches and pains.
Arthritis is about so much more. It’s like carrying around a weight that no one else can see. That weight can be in the form of chronic pain, medication side effects, isolation, depression and a long list of life-changing complications.
This Arthritis Awareness Month, help us make arthritis – a disease that impacts 5.6 million Canadians – visible. Because when something is visible, we can’t ignore it.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Want to find out more about arthritis? We’re launching Arthritis Awareness Month with a Reddit AMA or “Ask Me Anything” with Dr. John Esdaile, Arthritis Research Canada’s scientific director. For those who aren’t familiar with AMAs, they are online interviews hosted on Reddit, a social media platform with almost 1.69 billion users. Click here for more information about our September 7th AMA and how you can participate.
Enter our Arthritis Awareness Month Facebook contest for the chance to win a fitness prize pack valued at almost $200. It includes a Fitbit Flex and Lululemon yoga mat, mat strap and water bottle. All you have to do is answer a multiple choice question about arthritis and “like” and “follow” our page for the chance to win. The contest will run from September 1-30. Everyone who meets the above contest conditions will be entered into a draw.
There’s a lot that people just don’t know about arthritis. That’s why our research scientists will be sharing interesting arthritis facts on our YouTube channel throughout September. Make sure to check back regularly to learn more about arthritis. We will share these videos on Twitter (@Arthritis_ARC) and Facebook (@arthritisarc).
