"Good Men Can Be Hard to Find"
Seeking Fathers to participate in Arthritis Study
What is the purpose of the study?
- to better understand the impact of inflammatory types of arthritis on tasks and activities performed by fathers in the care and nurturing of their children.
What will study participants do?
- Fill out a survey (on line or on paper, your choice) or be interviewed, or both.
- Questions ask about arthritis symptoms, health status, parenting, and family life.
- Men who have volunteered to date have spent approximately 30 minutes on the survey; 30 to 40 minutes with the interview.
Who can participate?
Men who:
- have an inflammatory type of arthritis, like ankylosing spondylitis (AS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis, lupus (SLE), among other types
- are a father with at least one child (under 21 years) at home
- live anywhere in Canada (survey participants), or
- live in the greater Vancouver or Victoria metro areas (for interviews)
Who is doing the study?
- Dr. Catherine Backman, a researcher at the Arthritis Research Centre of Canada and professor at UBC, is supervising student researchers conducting this project.
