For People with Active Ankylosing Spondylitis
Physicians at The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada are seeking volunteers who have been diagnosed with active Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) to participate in a clinical research study involving an investigational study drug not yet approved by Health Canada.
Volunteers with AS who in the past have not responded to standard anti-inflammatory medications and/or 1 anti TNFa who meet criteria for entry into the study, and who consent to participation, would be randomly assigned to receive either active potential treatment (by a series of 3 intravenous infusions followed by sub-cutaneous injections given every 4 weeks) or placebo (an inactive substance by a series of 3 intravenous infusions followed by subcutaneous injections given every 4 weeks). The chance of receiving placebo is 1 in 3 for a maximum of 24 weeks. Participation in the study would involve 31 visits to the Arthritis Research Centre over 2 years.
