Who We Are
The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) was created in 2000 by the Board of The Arthritis Society, BC and Yukon Division, in recognition of the tremendous potential that research can bring to arthritis treatment in Canada, and indeed, the world. In April 2002, ARC became an independent organization that continues to work closely with The Arthritis Society for the benefit of all people with arthritis.
We are a young organization that has already earned international attention as a leading arthritis research environment. We are building a strong multi-disciplinary research team of outstanding medical doctors and research scientists, and we willingly collaborate with medical professionals around the world.
We are dedicated to understanding, advancing and sharing knowledge about the causes of arthritis, and addressing issues that are impacting people with arthritis right now.
We are proud to be affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI). We have also established a partnership with Simon Fraser University (SFU) with the establishment of the Arthritis Research Chair.
What We Do
The Arthritis Research Centre of Canada (ARC) conducts consumer-driven clinical research and trials related to arthritis diagnosis, prognosis, prevention, care outcomes and quality of life issues.
We are a patient-oriented research centre, and we approach our work from a wide range of disciplines including rheumatology, rehabilitation science, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics health psychology, health economics and education.
ARC’s important work is supported through working relationships and partnerships with universities, hospitals, funding agencies, arthritis treatment centres, and both the BC and Yukon Division and the National Office of The Arthritis Society.
ARC scientists are having tremendous success in obtaining external grant funding to support the many research projects that are highly relevant to Canadians with arthritis.
We are committed to practical research for everyday living, meaning finding the answers NOW to reduce the burden of arthritis, and giving people with arthritis better, more timely, and cost-effective solutions for living with their disease.
